The following policies are an addendum to the existing CDOW Acceptable Use Policy specific to the student use of Chromebooks while at Saint John the Beloved School.
Acceptable Use
Saint John the Beloved School only authorizes use of this device in a manner that supports its educational mission. Personal use is permissible outside of school, at parents’ discretion. In school, use of the Chromebook is limited to that which is authorized by a teacher at the time and must be in keeping with that teacher’s direction.
Students must handle the device with care and keep it in a secure, protective case with handles or cross-body strap when not in use.
Students must bring their device to school every day fully charged and with earbuds in a secure case.
Reporting Unacceptable Use – Students are responsible for maintaining academic honesty and integrity and reporting any violations of school policies. Plagiarism and copyright infringement will not be tolerated.
Loaners –
There is no guarantee that we will always have a loaner available.
There are two types of loaner situations:
A student who comes to school without their Chromebook may borrow a DAY LOANER which must be returned at the end of the school day. Loaners must be requested in the first period of the day. If this happens frequently, the student will be denied a loaner.
Loaners will NOT be issued due to a dead battery. REMEMBER TO CHARGE YOUR CHROMEBOOK EACH NIGHT.
Day loaners must be returned to the Tech Lab before the end of the school day and may NOT be taken to Eagles Club or taken home overnight.
Should a student find him/herself without their Chromebook while it is being repaired, or until families can replace a lost or stolen device, SJB will loan a Chromebook for a short period of time not to exceed three weeks, if one is available. The parent/guardian must complete the long-term loaner form found on Mrs. Coffield’s teacher website and submit a check for $100 as a security deposit.
This check will not be deposited, and will be returned to the parent once the loaner, charger and case (if requested) is returned to the Tech department clean and undamaged.
Violations – consequences will be levied for any policy violations which include but are not limited to:
Using the Chromebook in school or Homework Club, other than at the direction of the adult in charge, for educational purposes. In Eagles Club, Chromebooks may be used only with permission of director or supervisor and only in the assigned area.
Intentionally causing damage to one’s own Chromebook or one belonging to another student or teacher.
Not having working earbuds in the case after one warning.
Physically handling the Chromebook in a way that may damage it.
Allowing anyone, other than an SJB Tech person, to use or touch your Chromebook at school or Eagles Club unless permitted to do so by the person in charge.
Not keeping the Chromebook in the required protective carrying case when not in use. The specific consequence for this infraction will be to make the student ineligible to borrow a loaner due to their device being damaged.
Consequences for Violations of CDOW Acceptable Use Policy & SJB Chromebook Policies
1st violation: 3 detentions without a conduct referral
2nd violation: Conference with parents and student, 3 detentions, and a conduct referral. This may render the student ineligible for Honors.
3rd violation: Consequences as determined by administration and Technology Team.
