Hi everyone - Love the new Music Room! If you attend our Band Parent Meeting on Wednesday, 9/19 you will get to check it out, because the meeting will be in the Music Room at 6:30.
All grades from 2nd to 5th will need a recorder - we will start them the last week of September. I recommend the Yamaha Baroque 3-piece recorder, available online or at Music and Arts.
Band scheduling has begun - the only after school band time will be on Thursdays from dismissal until 3:40. All other band groups will rehearse during school. The Thursday after-school group will be the "Jazz/Select Group". Band instruments will be scheduled first - violin and guitar will be added later if room allows.
All band students will need the RUBANK method for their respective instrument, along with Essential Elements Book 1. Any auditions for upper groups will be announced a week in advance. Most material will be from the RUBANK method.
For students in Grade 7-8, the Audition requirements and schedule are out for the Delaware All-State Junior band. We have never had a student from SJB try out while they were here - I am hoping that changes this year. The link is: http://delawaremea.org/all-state-ensembles/
These requirements are great practice for anyone. If your child says they have "nothing to work on" I would direct them to this link.

Hi everyone, I hope you are enjoying the Summer! Some new information for the 2018-19 School Year:
No new violin, guitar, or keyboard students will be accepted at this point - please do not register to study these instruments unless you were registered for them last school year. If there is room in the schedule after Band Instruments are scheduled, there may be room for these instruments. Check this web page for future information regarding this matter.

I am working with Mr. Hart on scheduling full Band rehearsals during the school day - there may be a day for after school rehearsals for Advanced and/or Jazz Ensemble students. There are 3 levels of Band: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Advanced Band requires an audition. We will still have a Jazz Ensemble, and this is comprised of students selected by me. Beginner Band large group rehearsals start later in the year - once students can assemble the instrument, and get a decent sound. All Band students will need: Essential Elements Book 1 for their instrument. Rubank Book 1 for their respective instrument is also required for all levels.

Instruments of study are: Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone Horn, French Horn, and drums/percussion. WE NEED CLARINETS, FLUTES, and BELLS!!!!

The Music Room is now in the Main Building!! I really could use some help organizing and decorating the new room. If your student is interested in helping, please email me at:

All students in Grades 2-5 will need a Soprano recorder for General Music class. I recommend the "Yamaha 3 piece Baroque Soprano Recorder". Music and Arts in Midway Shopping Center usually has plenty - they are around $8.00.
