Percussion instruments are any instruments that you can tap, shake, or scrape to make sound. Making your own percussion instruments can be fun and super easy! Filling an empty water bottle part-way with uncooked rice, dried beans or beads makes an easy shaker. The kids can even decorate the outsides with paint or stickers! Homemade drums can be made from a variety of different containers.
This website has a number of great ideas for instruments. NOTE: Not all of the instruments on this site are percussion (ie the guitar or digideroo). Be sure to stick to the ones that are played by tapping, shaking or scraping.
Homemade Instruments
All instruments will be needed in class on Feb. 8th. Please consult the parent letter sent home for guidelines and feel free to email me with any specific questions.
Welcome back to school! I'm so excited to get started. Students will have music every Monday. Here's some of what the children will be learning and doing in music this year:
3's and 4's: In this class we'll be developing a love of music! They'll be lots of singing, movement, instrument play, and fingerplays. Through these activities children will be developing steady beat, ear training, fine and gross motor skills, focused listening and much, much more!
Kindergarten: Children will have lots of fun with musical games, stories, singing, and instrument play. In addition to the skills above, students will play in ensemble activities, start to learn how to read graphic notation, and will identify different instruments of the orchestra.
